How to clean the removable dental prosthesis, home?

The best way to to clean a removable dental prosthesis is using neutral soap liquid and plenty of water.

But there are also products that can complement the cleaning and disinfection, including: the effervescent tablets special for prosthetics and also other options of home-made products such as baking soda or vinegar

Options for cleaning a removable dental prosthesis

As we mentioned, there are several options to make the cleaning of the dental prosthesis. Every product has a specific role either to clean, disinfect it or assist in the removal of stains.

For normal cleaning daily

1. Plenty of water

After every meal or drink, you should always rinse the denture with plenty of water, to prevent food residue from the stain.

2. Liquid soap neutral

The neutral soap is recommended for the cleaning of the prosthesis. This type of soap does not contain dyes or flavorings. Allows you to keep the prosthesis in very good condition, clean and sanitized.

You should brush your dentures at least 3 times a day with mild soap and using a special brush for dental prostheses that have bristles softer. The toothbrushes normal can cause deterioration in the material.

For disinfection

1. Effervescent tablets

The effervescent tablets are a good option for the disinfection of the prosthesis. They are special for dental prostheses, and will not cause any problem.

To use them you must put the pill in a glass of water, and then insert the prosthesis the time indicated in the label recommendations of every one. This type of disinfection can be done 1 time per day.

2. Baking soda and lemon

To remove stains

Baking soda and vinegar

This mix is special for stain removal. It is not something you have to do every day, only if it has stained the prosthesis or for maintenance 1 time a month.

For this, you can mix 1 cup vinegar with 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Then you let the prosthesis soak for 5 minutes, the withdraw and enjuagas with plenty of water. The vinegar may leave a taste and a strong smell in the prosthesis, for this reason we recommend you brush your tongue then with mild soap.

What to avoid when cleaning the removable dental prosthesis?

You must avoid hot water, toothbrushes, and normal toothpaste. Any of these products can cause damage to your dentures, for the materials with which they are produced.
